On Tuesday, September 30th, Stoughton Credit Union will be closed to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day invites us to pause, reflect, and learn about the impacts of the Indian Residential School system and to honour the strength of survivors, the children who never returned home, their families, and communities.
We’ve shared resources from the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce below to help guide learning, reflection, and participation.
Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day, held each year on September 30, was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad, who had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at residential school. Her story has become a symbol of the culture, identity, and self-esteem that was taken from Indigenous children for generations.
Wearing orange on this day is a way to honour Survivors, remember the children who never came home, and show support for healing and reconciliation. The message is simple but powerful: Every Child Matters.
